I've neglected this blog for three years, but was compelled to announce that today's "Darwin Award" goes to the woman who posted the following response to an article about the poor sea turtle who had a plastic straw painfully extracted from her nose by marine biologists during an emergency triage in a boat.
"It is disgusting the extent some people will go to make a point. The whole video is about not 'littering'. The poor turtle was subjected to agonizing torture so that these people could make their disgusting point about 'littering'. I am very much against 'littering', but much more against torturing defenseless creature. That straw did not get there without someone putting it there!! Good grief wake up you naive. gullible people!"
She believes someone shoved the straw up the sea turtle's nose just to make an anti-litter video! Um, no lady, it got there because it was floating in the ocean thanks to clueless humans -- who have no respect for our planet or wildlife (just like Dentist Walter Palmer) -- dumping their trash as if the ocean is a toilet.
The turtle mistakenly thought the straw floating by was food and consumed it, but then regurgitated the foreign object. During that process, it came out the wrong way and became lodged in its nose.

The daft woman who wrote the idiotic comment believes the rescuers should've left the straw in and let the turtle die, because removing the straw caused temporary albeit tremendous pain to the turtle. Somehow this woman thinks the video was about not littering, rather than realizing the story exposes and confirms that littering is DEVASTATING to our oceans and marine life.
Next time this twit gets a splinter, she shouldn't let doctors remove it because extraction might be painful. She should let it fester and become infected until it turns into a dangerous staph infection.
